  1. Dear Timothy,

Let me think a bit about your question, and I will get back to you. Send me your email to bdh@dillonhillas.com, since this is such a public forum.

    Best,
    Barbara

    Hello Mrs. Hillas,
I’m very eager to become a Foreign Service Officer. However, I’m having difficulty finding a person with whom I could share my personal background and qualifications, and accept advice and direction.

In short, I’m contemplating whether or not I’m qualified to take the requisite exams and testing now, or whether I should perhaps serve in the US military first, building up some professional experience, connections, and using the time to obtain a diploma which I neglected to do in my early 20′s (I’m now 29 with 2 years worth of college credit but no degree). Despite the lack of a diploma, I’ve lived in Europe for over a year (where I picked up a fluency in German), and am living in China right now where I’m working on my Mandarin, etc. Am I ready to join? Am I currently a viable candidate? Or, is there a course that would prepare me for likely acceptance into the US Foreign Service?

If you, or anyone you know could personally contact me and offer advice and direction, I would be most grateful.

    Thank you so much!
    Timothy

  3. Thanks, C.G. Smith, for the encouragement and for pointing out the error. Fixed it.

We just returned from Europe and visited Terezin while there. Keep up the good work.

I thought you might want to check your spelling on the Deuteronomy reference.

  5. Dear Joan,

You steered me in the right direction to find Anthony Kearn’s musical rendition. Thank you. http://www.dillonhillas.com/dumspirospero/when-irish-eyes-are-smiling-and-a-voice-from-heaven-touches-your-soul/

    Dear Barbara,
I just discovered that there are many other YouTubes on the site I posted earlier for Mr. Kearns.
God bless you and thanks to New Zealand for recognizing the contributions of our troops to protect freedom and preserve peace around the world.

Anthony Kearns sang the most beautiful rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer” on HUCKABEE on the Fox News Network earlier this year. It was rebroadcast as part of his musical Fourth of July special. The YouTube of Mr. Kearns singing on the show can be found @ http://www.anthonykearnsmusic.com

  8. Hey, I was really miffed that I missed you guys, knowing I would arrive a day or two after you!!!! I know Kenneth enjoyed having you around, and for Betsey it was a “variation”, though she doesn’t remember it quite well.

Am looking forward to the reunion in North Carolina!

  9. My Dear Barbara,
We missed being with you in Maine! Kenneth was a great host and Betsy was in good spirits and humor.
Your blog is always interesting and educational…I do think that our minds are often on similar paths!
    God Bless,
    Phil
